Setting up motion sensing lights
It seems like the house is getting used to the automations faster than I expected as now lately I got a request from Dad, saying “Can you put motion sensor lights on my way to the washroom and kitchen, so that I don’t have to stumble at night?” and I said “DONE!!”.
As I did some research into it, I could easily buy eight more bulbs and two more sensors to make that work, however the price point on it wasn’t worth it. So I looked around to see if I could get the built in motion sensing lights for a better price point.
I found these little beauties on amazon, which based on luminosity and motion would turn on, and after 30 seconds of no motion, it would automatically turn off. We bought a few and installed them on the stairs, downstairs landing and my closet. The places that weren’t deemed good enough for my home automations, now had some “dumb” automations into play.
Next, we had to do something for the outside, so I found these lights which had the similar concept but for outdoors instead of just indoors. Now, I do not need to leave my outside lights on for when people are coming, they just turn on and off when they detect motion.
I wonder if I can convince Elma – my budget committee of one – if I can invest into outside cameras so that I can capture some wildlife if they come to visit at night?!
