Adding weather into the mix for automations
Being from a brown family, my parents are very careful about their money. This became more apparent as mom started complaining that the kitchen lights are being turned on even if it’s broad daylight outside which was her way of saying I was wasting energy. She suggested that I change the settings so that it doesn’t turn on in the morning and it only turns on after sunset.
Like the nice brown son that I am, I said “Sure, Mom – we can make this happen”. I changed my routine to only work between sunset and sunrise for the lights to turn on, which was an easy check for sunrise and sunset.
We had other complications because mom’s like well it’s cloudy outside I need the kitchen lights to be on. Luckily for me webcore allowed me to check the weather of Keswick Ridge, and we’ve set it up in such a way that it checks the cloud cover and based on that sets the lights are set to a dim level.
