Filtering out the noise during work
Lately I’ve been getting a lot more notifications on my personal phone, and for people who know me I like to keep my work life and my home life separated as much as I can. Now during work times, if i’ve been getting a lot of notifications on my personal phone I tend not to see them, however, there are some that I cannot ignore.
Now to figure out which ones I can ignore and the ones I need to listen to. I think I had to come up with the routine for this. First to find out what I cannot ignore:
- My wife,
- my parents, and
- my battery dying.
So using IFTTT, I created a routine so that whenever I get a text from my wife or my parents or if the phone battery is dying it sends out a web request. This goes into webcore which now reads this information and then flashes my office desk light accordingly.

For my wife of course it’s the police red and blue lights, for my parents it’s the orange and for my battery it’s a nice little white and blue flashing light routine. This way I know that I’ve got a notification from them that I need to read, otherwise, I can ignore everyone else. If you want to be added to the do not ignore list give me a shout!
