With fall soon approaching, it brings the uncertainty of what the weather will be like. To ensure that Mom and Dad stay warm and, me not constantly running back and forth from turning the heat pump on/off and opening and closing the windows. I had to come up with something better.

From a previous post I had purchased a universal remote control that connected to my Google Home and IFTTT.

This allowed me to connect to any devices that had a remote control to it and big surprise I connected it to my heat pumps. This allowed me the ability to turn them on and off at the command of my voice. Now it was time to connect it to my IFTTT.

The device comes with an app called BroadLink in which I can configure some scenes, where I created two scenes. One for turning all my heat pumps to 18C and the other to turn them all off.

Then I went into IFTTT and wrote up the following routines:

Heater On Routine: If external weather is below 10C then turn on the heaters.
Heater Off Routine: If the external weather is above 15C then turn off heaters

These two routines now not only control the heat pumps but also send me notification letting me know that they are triggered so that way I can go close/open the windows. Humm now I wonder if there are ways to close/open windows automatically. 😉
